A great book for teachers new and old as well as 'tech experts' and 'tech novices!'
Dr. Ken Halla is at the forefront of effectively using technology in the classroom. The book provides you with detailed strategies on ways to incorporate it into your classroom. Whether students have school-issued devices or or have their own, Halla shows some of his best practices that really work.
Particularly interesting was his "Educator Challenges" at the end of each chapter. Halla encourages teachers to incorporate some or all of his techniques into your lesson plans the following week.
Other topics include: The use of social media, Google (Drive, Hangout, Plus, etc...), using cell phones effectively, back-channel chatrooms, and much much more. These strategies are truly 'game-changers' in the classroom.

Highly recommend! It's all about using today's tech for our students (especially the latest and greatest tools) ...
By Tim Rodman
Full disclosure: I met Ken at an AP Summer Institute for AP Comparative Government a few years back, but I am just an avid technology user who wants to find ways to help my students learn more about government and economics. So this book really hit home with me.
Every 21st century educator needs to read this book! Whether you are a tech guru or a novice wanting to dip your toes into the technology pond, Ken outlines ways teachers can teach their content through the cloud, flipping the classroom in a 1:1 learning environment, blending the classroom with technology, or trying to find new approaches to using the ever-evolving tech tools out there that are cropping up every day. He also provides accompanying blogs for teachers of government, economics and history, an added bonus to the book.
However, if you're looking for a book to teach you how to use Google Classroom or just its accompanying tools, this is not the book for you. But I LIKED the fact that he focused on the many OTHER tools and technologies that are out there, like how to use QR codes and Twitter more effectively with students, when the time is right to flip the classroom, what to do with formative and summative learning in a tech environment, and how to use tools like PollEverywhere, TodaysMeet, Cel.ly, Flubaroo and Quizlet. Best of all, he shares the feedback he has accumulated from his own students about how the tech tools are working for them and what connections they are making in government, economics and history. He provided so many ideas that I was worried about finding the time to try them all!
Better still, one of my favorite parts of the book was that he shared daily challenges teachers can use to try new tech ideas or make smaller changes to their pedagogy to see how things will evolve within their own classrooms. I really liked his focus on professional learning communities and naming a number of innovative tech educators who are also integrating technology in the flipped or blended learning classroom. If you're not sure how you should use technology in your classroom or just don't know how to get started, you should check out this book. If you are an avid, tech-integrated teacher and just want to see how he has used new technologies in his classroom, you will also benefit from this book. And the thought leaders he mentions are an added bonus to follow on Twitter and Google+ where you can gain even more insight on the latest technologies and how to use them in your classroom. I highly recommend Ken's book.

A Primer Primer for People Using the Cloud for Instruction
By Per Hansa
Excellent book that I use in graduate and undergraduate courses because it fills in the gaps that most educators have when they start using the web for instruction. It goes into sufficient detail on the well-chosen subjects so I disagree with another reviewer citing that it doesn't have enough depth. Students have said otherwise. The book is eminently readable and I'm glad it's in paperback and inexpensive for what it does. Also good for the self-declared "technically challenged" classroom teacher.
